The games are set in Japan's Sengoku period, depicting the battles between protagonist Samanosuke Akechi and the demonic Genma. The series is known for its fluid combat system, rich storylines, and unique character designs. The original "Onimusha" pioneered action games set in the Sengoku era and quickly gained popularity for its impressive graphics and gameplay. Several sequels followed, including "Onimusha 2", "Onimusha 3", and "Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams", each bringing new stories and characters. Additionally, there are spin-offs like "Onimusha: Way of The Sword" and "Onimusha Soul." In recent years, the first "Onimusha" was remastered in HD, allowing both new and old players to experience this classic. The series holds a significant place in the action game genre due to its unique "Oni Power" system, "Issen" combat mechanic, and the rich Japanese cultural backdrop. A Netflix anime adaptation was also released in 2023, breathing new life into the series.
