Tengoku Daimakyo

"Heavenly Delusion" (Japanese: 天国大魔境, Tengoku Daimakyō) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masakazu Ishiguro. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the story follows two parallel narratives: one features Maru, a young boy, and his bodyguard Kiruko as they journey across a ruined Japan in search of a place called "Heaven"; the other centers on children living seemingly peaceful lives in an isolated school. The manga has been serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon since January 2018 and has been adapted into a TV anime by Production I.G, which aired from April to June 2023. The anime is globally distributed on Disney+. The series is acclaimed for its engaging plot, unique world-building, and profound themes, and is considered one of the best animes of 2023. Both the manga and anime delve into themes of gender identity, humanity, and societal issues, skillfully blending elements of science fiction, fantasy, and mystery.
