Azur Lane is a side-scrolling shoot 'em up video game created by Chinese developers Shanghai Manjuu and Xiamen Yongshi, released in 2017 for iOS and Android. Set in an alternate timeline of World War II, players engage in side-scrolling shooter gameplay, using female moe anthropomorphic characters based on warships from the war's major participants. The game combines elements of shooting, simulation, and role-playing. Players collect and train "shipgirls," form fleets, and participate in various battles. In addition to the main storyline, the game includes a dormitory system, a marriage system, and a PVP mode. Players can choose different starter shipgirls and obtain new ones through battles, quests, and events. The shipgirls' designs are primarily based on warships from major WWII participants, such as the US Navy, the British Royal Navy, the Japanese Imperial Navy, and the German Navy. With updates, more countries and warships are added. Initially popular in China and Japan, Azur Lane was later released in English and expanded to Latin America. Beyond the game, the IP has spawned manga, novels, and anime adaptations.
