Azur Lane is a side-scrolling shoot 'em up video game developed by Chinese developers Shanghai Manjuu and Xiamen Yongshi, released in 2017. Set in an alternate timeline of World War II, the game features anthropomorphic moe characters based on warships from the war's major participants. Players engage in battles, collect and upgrade these "shipgirls", and customize dorms. Arkhangelsk is a character in the game, based on a Soviet battleship. The game was initially successful in China and Japan, and has received critical acclaim for its unique gameplay system. Azur Lane has been adapted into various forms of media, including manga, novels, and an anime adaptation by Bibury Animation Studios, a 3D adaptation for PlayStation 4 called Azur Lane Crosswave. The gameplay involves organizing fleets, navigating maps, and engaging in battles, along with a dormitory feature for character interaction and resource gathering. The game also includes a pledge system where players can give rings to their favorite shipgirls.
