Varus, also known as "The Arrow of Retribution," is an ancient Darkin champion in League of Legends. He was once a paragon of loyalty and honor in the ancient Shuriman Empire, appointed as a temple warden due to his skill in archery. During the early stages of the war with Icathia, he remained at his post even as his homeland was attacked, and was eventually taken in by the Ascended. As an Ascended, Varus was consumed by the desire for vengeance and became a ruthless killer. With his crystalline bow, he assassinated enemy commanders and champions, helping the Darkin defeat mortal armies with ease. Eventually, he was bound within his bow by vastayan moon-stalkers and mages from Valoran. Later, a golden-armored warrior queen chose to wield the deadly weapon for final victory, ultimately sacrificing herself and being buried in a deep well in Ionia. Centuries later, during the Noxian invasion of Ionia, two beast hunters, Valmar and Kai, were consumed by the bow's power, reshaping their bodies and releasing Varus. Now, Varus struggles to control his new form while seeking revenge for his race's destruction. Varus is a marksman/mage champion known for his high sustained damage and long-range crowd control. His abilities include: a passive called "Living Vengeance," granting bonus attack damage and ability power on kills or assists; Q ability, "Piercing Arrow," a powerful shot that can be charged for increased range and damage; W ability, "Blighted Quiver," enhancing basic attacks with magic damage and Blight stacks that can be detonated with other abilities; E ability, "Hail of Arrows," dealing physical damage and slowing enemies; and R ability, "Chain of Corruption," a root that can spread to nearby champions. Varus can be played as either a physical or magical damage dealer, offering high flexibility.
