Zyra, the Rise of the Thorns, is a mage champion in League of Legends, who can also be played as a support. Her lore begins with an ancient, magical catastrophe, making her a hybrid of plant and human. Zyra's memories run as deep as the earth's roots, and she was born during the Rune Wars when factions fought for the keys to creation. According to legend, in the jungles south of Kumungu, between the rivers of eastern Shurima, lay the fabled Gardens of Zyr. Elemental magic unpredictably transformed the soil, giving rise to ferocious, carnivorous plants. These plants were indifferent to mortal conflict, content to coil their vines in forests and swamps. In a sense, they were all Zyra. A lost company of soldiers entered the Gardens, and their sorceress tried to save them with rune magic. However, an explosion destroyed everything, but Zyra's consciousness was reborn in the aftermath. She saw herself as different, and looked upon other creatures with disdain, causing plant life to grow wherever she went. Zyra can summon plants using seeds and her various abilities, including Thorn Spitters and Vine Lashers, and control the battlefield with her ultimate ability, Stranglethorns. Her appearance poses a new threat to the world as strange plant life spreads where she travels.
