Roman Barkov

Roman Barkov is a primary antagonist in *Call of Duty: Modern Warfare*, a rogue Russian general who believes Urzikstan is a breeding ground for terrorists. He leads loyalist soldiers and mercenaries in a brutal campaign to control the country in order to protect Russia. Known for his ruthless tactics, including the use of chemical weapons and the commission of war crimes, Barkov's goal is to eliminate all resistance and solidify his rule over Urzikstan. Barkov’s early life was marked by hardship, leading to a desire for power and recognition. He joined the army illegally and rose through the ranks, gaining a reputation for brutality. He launched his attack on Urzikstan in 1999, deploying chlorine gas bombs and nerve agents in his “Annexation” operation, targeting even hospitals and causing numerous civilian casualties. His actions eventually led to conflict with the Urzikstan Liberation Force and his ultimate demise at the hands of Farah Karim, ending his reign of terror in the region. Barkov's actions were disavowed by the Russian government, allowing Viktor Zakhaev to rise to power and prompting the formation of Task Force 141.
