Edelgard von Hresvelg is a major character in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the heir to the Adrestian Empire, and the house leader of the Black Eagles. In the first part of the game, she disguises herself as the enigmatic Flame Emperor, secretly plotting to overthrow the Church of Seiros. Edelgard is a strong-willed and determined character who is willing to wage war and challenge the existing social order to achieve her ideals. She despises the social inequality caused by the Crest system and the corruption of the Church, and is determined to create a more equal world free from the influence of Crests. Her relationship with the protagonist, Byleth, is central to the story, and depending on Byleth's choice, she will become either the main protagonist or one of the main antagonists. Edelgard's complex personality and the moral ambiguity she represents have made her one of the most debated and popular characters in the Fire Emblem series.
