Sylvain

Sylvain, full name Sylvain Jose Gautier, is a playable character in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. He is a student from the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and a member of the Blue Lions house. Sylvain possesses a minor Crest of Gautier and is 19 years old at the start of the game. Born in Imperial Year 1160 as the second son of Margrave Gautier, his older brother, Miklan, was cast aside when Sylvain's Crest was discovered. Miklan harbored a deep jealousy for Sylvain and attempted to kill him numerous times. Despite Miklan's hostility, Sylvain understood his brother's plight. He grew up with his childhood friends Dimitri, Felix, and Ingrid. During his time at the Officers Academy, Sylvain joins the Blue Lions. He is characterized as a flirtatious and often shallow womanizer, which stems from his inability to form genuine romantic connections. Despite his easygoing demeanor, he is deeply caring for his friends and acts as an older brother figure in his class. As the game progresses, Sylvain begins to reflect on the impact of Crests on people's lives and resolves to be himself rather than be dictated by his Crest. He is highly intelligent and capable of grasping complex magical formulas, but admits in support conversations that he intentionally acts less intelligent to avoid the pressures of others' expectations. In the war phase, if Sylvain is not recruited, he appears as an enemy at the Battle of Gronder Field. If recruited, he chooses to side with Byleth, even if it means fighting against his own country.
