Ancient Debris is a rare ore found exclusively in the Nether dimension of Minecraft, typically between Y-levels 8 and 119. As the second rarest ore in the game (after Emerald Ore), it cannot be burned, floats on lava, and possesses the same blast resistance as obsidian, while still being movable by pistons. Ancient Debris is essential for creating Netherite, which is obtained by smelting it into Netherite Scraps, which are then crafted into Netherite Ingots, used to upgrade diamond equipment to Netherite versions. Ancient Debris typically generates in veins of 1 to 4 blocks, with an average of 1.65 ore blocks per chunk and a maximum of 11 blocks in a single chunk. It must be mined with a diamond pickaxe or better. Methods for gathering it include using TNT to blast through netherrack, exploiting the bed explosion mechanic in the Nether, or traditional branch mining. The Y-level 15 is commonly cited as the most prolific for finding this rare resource.
