  • Chinese: 安山岩
  • English: Andesite
Andesite is a common igneous rock block found in Minecraft, typically in large pockets underground. It was added in the 1.8 update along with granite and diorite. Andesite is commonly exposed on the surface in mountain biomes, but it also generates in other biomes. Underground, it often spawns in veins similar to gravel and dirt. Andesite is primarily used for decoration, and can be used to build houses or gardens. It has the same blast resistance as stone, making it a suitable substitute for stone in construction. Players can mine andesite using any pickaxe; if mined without a pickaxe, it will not drop anything. Andesite can be crafted by combining diorite and cobblestone in a crafting table. Four andesite can be combined to make polished andesite, which is a smoother decorative block. Polished andesite can be found in igloo basements, the "nature", "forge", and "large jail" rooms of woodland mansions. In Bedrock Edition, andesite can also replace some coral in coral reefs. Mason villagers may trade andesite or polished andesite for emeralds.
