Beetroots are a food and dye ingredient in Minecraft, added in Update 0.8.0 for Pocket Edition and in 1.9 for Java Edition. They can be obtained by harvesting mature beetroot crops, which drop 1 beetroot and 1-4 beetroot seeds. Beetroot crops can be found in villages or grown from planted beetroot seeds. A beetroot can be eaten to restore 1 hunger point and 1.2 hunger saturation. Six beetroots can be crafted into beetroot soup, which restores six times the hunger and saturation. Beetroots can also be used to craft red dye, and to breed pigs. Placing beetroot into a composter has a 65% chance of raising the compost level. Novice-level Farmer villagers have a 25% chance (Bedrock Edition) or 40% chance (Java Edition) to buy 15 beetroots for an emerald. Beetroot seeds can be planted on farmland to grow beetroot crops. Mature crops drop 1-4 beetroot seeds. Beetroot seeds can be used to breed chickens, lead chickens, and make baby chickens grow up 10% faster.
