Bone blocks are a type of block in Minecraft that can be crafted by combining nine bone meal, or found naturally in fossil structures in desert and swamp biomes, or as part of nether fossils in soul sand valley biomes. Bone blocks are primarily used as decorative blocks, but they can also be used as compact storage for bone meal. When placed under note blocks, bone blocks also produce xylophone sounds. Bone blocks are available in various versions of Minecraft, such as Java Edition, Bedrock Edition, and others, with similar methods of acquisition and uses across these versions. Bone Blocks were added in the Frostburn Update, they are a renewable resource, and can be mined with any pickaxe. If mined without a pickaxe, they drop nothing. Aside from being used for decoration they can also be used as compressed storage of bone meal, they are in essence storage blocks for nine bone meals. With the 1.16 Nether Update bone blocks can also be found in the fossils in the soul sand valley biomes. Players can utilize them to craft bonemeal or decorate their builds making them multi use items.
