Calcite
Calcite is a decorative block in Minecraft, introduced in the 1.17 Caves & Cliffs update. It primarily spawns in two locations: deep underground within amethyst geodes, found between layers of smooth basalt and amethyst blocks, and, since 1.18, in the stony peaks biome, where it appears as strips exposed on the surface. Calcite cannot be crafted; it must be mined to be obtained. A pickaxe is required for mining, as using other tools or bare hands will not yield any items. While it is currently solely used for decoration, its smooth, white texture makes it a good choice for building floors or walls. Calcite has relatively low hardness and blast resistance, so its fragility should be considered in builds. In the real world, calcite is a common mineral and a stable form of calcium carbonate, commonly known as "chalk." Its uses are diverse, including soil stabilization and concrete repair. Despite its limited function in Minecraft, its unique appearance makes it a favored decorative material among players.
