Copper grates are a semi-transparent decorative block in Minecraft, a variant of copper blocks featuring see-through perforations. They were introduced in the 1.21 update, "Tricky Trials." Copper grates can be crafted using four copper blocks in a cross pattern on a crafting table or made with one copper block in a stonecutter. Like regular copper blocks, copper grates oxidize over time, changing from their initial orange-brown color to green. Players can use an axe to scrape off the oxidation or apply honeycomb to wax them, preserving their current color. Copper grates primarily serve a decorative purpose, fitting into various building designs due to their semi-transparency. Notably, they do not conduct redstone signals, and mobs cannot spawn on them, while also being able to be waterlogged. Copper grates also generate naturally in trial chambers, making them a versatile block for both decoration and functional building elements.
