In Minecraft, coral is a decorative plant block introduced in the 1.13 'Update Aquatic'. They primarily generate in coral reefs within warm ocean biomes, boasting a variety of colors and shapes. Coral comes in five types: tube coral, brain coral, bubble coral, fire coral, and horn coral, each with its distinct morphology. There are also fan-shaped variants of all five types. Living coral requires water to survive, and when placed out of water, they gradually turn gray, eventually die, and fall off as lootable items. Players can collect coral using tools enchanted with 'Silk Touch,' but they cannot be used for crafting other items. Coral is primarily used for decoration and creating underwater landscapes, adding rich visual effects to the game. Coral reefs are not just a gathering place for coral; they also often appear alongside seagrass and sea pickles, providing habitats for marine life. Additionally, coral can be placed under note blocks to produce 'bass drum' sounds.
