In Minecraft, the dark oak sign is a basic non-solid block used to display text. It can be placed on the top or side of other blocks, allowing players to write up to four lines of text with approximately 15 characters per line. Dark oak signs are crafted from dark oak planks and a stick, yielding three signs per craft. Besides serving as an informational tool, signs can be used as fuel in the game, although not very efficiently. They can be dyed and made to glow using glow ink sacs. Furthermore, the text on a sign can be waxed with a honeycomb to prevent further editing. There is also a dark oak hanging sign in the game, which has different placement options, a narrower text area, and is crafted with chains and stripped dark oak logs. Hanging signs can be attached below blocks or using a bracket. They can also be dyed and waxed. Signs are versatile in Minecraft, used for labeling locations, providing information, as decoration, and for controlling the flow of water and lava.
