In Minecraft, the Dead Fire Coral Block is a gray block that results from a living Fire Coral Block dying when out of water. This block cannot be crafted and must be obtained either by mining live Fire Coral Blocks or found in the Creative inventory. When a live Fire Coral Block is mined with a pickaxe that does not have the "Silk Touch" enchantment, it drops a Dead Fire Coral Block. Dead Fire Coral Blocks are primarily used for decoration or building, but they cannot be used to farm sea pickles like their living counterparts. They differ from living coral blocks as they cannot sustain "life" out of water and will turn gray. There are five variants of dead coral blocks in total: tube, brain, bubble, fire, and horn. The item ID for the Dead Fire Coral Block can be used in game commands to spawn this block. In Minecraft Bedrock Edition, dead fire coral blocks naturally generate in coral reefs found in warm oceans, but they do not generate naturally in Java Edition. Dead fire coral blocks can be placed under note blocks to produce a bass drum sound.
