Deepslate iron ore is a variant of iron ore in Minecraft that generates within deepslate layers, typically found below the Y-coordinate of 0. Unlike regular iron ore, deepslate iron ore cannot be crafted; it must be found and gathered in the game world. It was introduced in the Caves & Cliffs Update: Part I. To obtain deepslate iron ore, players must mine it using a diamond, iron, stone, or netherite pickaxe enchanted with Silk Touch. Without Silk Touch, mining deepslate iron ore will drop raw iron instead. Deepslate iron ore is a vital resource for underground exploration and can be found across various Minecraft editions, including Java and Bedrock. It can be smelted into iron ingots and is a base material for many crafting recipes in the game. This ore generates in large veins deep underground, often alongside raw iron blocks and tuff. The ore has unique IDs and data values, and it can be obtained using commands.
