In Minecraft, a dropper is a low-capacity storage block that ejects its contents into the world or other containers when given a redstone signal. It can be mined with a pickaxe, dropping itself and its contents, or without, dropping only the contents. Droppers are used as containers or redstone components to move items, and their output faces in any direction. Horizontally placed droppers display a face on their output side; otherwise, it has a square hole. A dropper has 9 inventory slots, accessible via its GUI. In Java Edition, the `/data` command can rename or lock droppers, preventing access to players without the required item. Unlike dispensers, droppers drop items instead of placing them, and drop armor instead of equipping it. Droppers can also be placed below note blocks to create bass drum sounds. They are frequently used in item transport systems, like item elevators. Overall, the dropper is a versatile redstone component for item handling in Minecraft.
