The Locked Chest is a removed block from Minecraft, initially introduced in Beta 1.4 as part of a 2011 April Fools' joke. This block was intended to direct players to a fake Minecraft Store, a prank website. In Beta 1.4, the Locked Chest was initially indestructible, only dropping when destroyed by explosions. Starting from Beta 1.4_01 until its removal, the Locked Chest could be broken like a normal chest. In Beta 1.4, if the computer date was set to April 1st of any year, the game would randomly generate a Locked Chest in each new chunk. Clicking the Locked Chest would display a dialog box prompting players to purchase a key from the Minecraft Store, part of the April Fools' prank. The Locked Chest was later removed from the game and can only be obtained through specific commands. It has the same texture as regular chests and emits a light level of 15, similar to glowstone. In later versions, the Locked Chest would also decay over time. The Locked Chest does not have any unique sounds. Although mainly made of wood, it does not burn.
