In Minecraft, a monster spawner is a special block that appears as a black cage with a miniature, spinning mob inside. It continuously spawns the same type of mob around it as long as a player is nearby and the mob's spawning conditions are met (e.g., sufficient darkness). Spawners cannot be obtained in survival mode or moved by pistons. Breaking a spawner drops experience orbs. Players can obtain spawners in creative mode via the creative inventory, /give command, or pick block feature. Spawners are initially empty and can be configured to spawn a specific mob using spawn eggs. They are commonly found in structures like dungeons, strongholds, and Nether fortresses, spawning hostile mobs such as skeletons, spiders, zombies, blazes, and silverfish. Spawners can be disabled by placing torches or other light sources, or filling the spawn area with solid blocks. In Java Edition, they can be customized using commands.
