The moss block is a natural block in Minecraft, added in the Caves & Cliffs Update: Part I. It cannot be crafted using a crafting table or furnace; instead, it must be found and gathered in the game. Moss blocks primarily generate on the floor and ceiling within the lush caves biome. Players can mine moss blocks using any tool or by hand, but a hoe is the fastest. Additionally, wandering traders may sell 2 moss blocks for 1 emerald. Moss blocks can be propagated using bone meal; when used, certain types of surrounding blocks are converted to moss blocks, and grass, azaleas, or moss carpets may generate. Moss blocks have various uses, such as being used as a composting material, with a 65% chance to raise the compost level in a composter. In the Java Edition, moss blocks can also speed up the hatching of sniffer eggs. Moss blocks do not stick to sticky pistons, slime blocks, or honey blocks, and they drop as items when pushed by pistons. Overall, moss blocks are a versatile and renewable resource with many uses in Minecraft.
