In Minecraft, the Moving Piston, also known as "Block 36", is a technical block that exists temporarily when a piston pushes a block. It's not a regular block that players can place or collect, but rather an intermediate state during piston movement. The purpose of the Moving Piston is to ensure that blocks in motion behave as solids, rather than being penetrable like sand. In Java Edition, the Moving Piston is invisible and non-solid, but fluids cannot pass through it. It also prevents players from building at its location. While mobs can see through it, they cannot walk through it. The Moving Piston has a block entity, which stores information about its movement. Additionally, it's treated as a stone block in the game, meaning that players will hear stone footstep sounds when walking on it. Although it's possible to create Moving Pistons without entities through some technical methods, typically, it's replaced by air, the piston head, or the block being moved once the piston's motion ends. In earlier versions, Moving Pistons had an item form that could be obtained by specific means, but now it's no longer directly obtainable.
