A Nether Portal is a crucial structure in Minecraft that acts as a gateway between the Overworld and the Nether. It is constructed with an obsidian frame, with a minimum size of 4x5 and a maximum of 23x23. The four corners of the frame are not required but are usually included. To activate the portal, fire must be placed within the frame. Once activated, the portal forms a vortex-like entrance, allowing players or other entities to enter the Nether, a hellish dimension filled with lava, fire, and hostile mobs. The location of the portal has a coordinate correspondence between the Overworld and the Nether, with a horizontal distance ratio of 8:1, meaning that moving one block in the Nether is equivalent to moving eight blocks in the Overworld. If no corresponding portal exists in the destination dimension, the game will automatically generate one. Most entities, except for the wither and ender dragon, can travel through portals, but they are subject to a cooldown. Nether portals are not just entrances to the Nether, they are also an important strategic tool, allowing players to move quickly across long distances in the Overworld.
