A polished deepslate slab is a half-height block in Minecraft made from polished deepslate. It was introduced in the Caves & Cliffs Update: Part I. Similar to regular slabs, it has various uses including building and decoration. To craft a polished deepslate slab, you need to place three polished deepslate blocks in a row on a crafting table, yielding six polished deepslate slabs. Polished deepslate slabs can be found in the Creative inventory, or spawned using commands. They can be mined with any pickaxe; they drop nothing if mined without one. Polished deepslate slabs also generate naturally in ancient cities. Like regular slabs, polished deepslate slabs can occupy the top or bottom half of a block, or form a double slab, though double slabs are not obtainable directly in Java Edition. Additionally, polished deepslate slabs can be placed under note blocks to produce bass drum sounds. In Bedrock Edition, a sound is played when two polished deepslate slabs combine into a double slab. Polished deepslate slabs can block light and are partially transparent in Bedrock Edition.
