Polished Tuff Stairs are a decorative block in Minecraft, a polished variant of the Tuff block. Compared to regular Tuff, Polished Tuff has a smoother surface and finer texture, giving it the appearance of a large, smooth stone. Each face of this block features two lighter edges and two darker edges, simulating the effect of a single polished stone. Polished Tuff Stairs are primarily used for construction and decoration, ideal for building staircases, platforms, and other structures, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of builds. Players can obtain Polished Tuff Stairs by mining them with a pickaxe. They naturally generate in trial chambers and can also be crafted from Polished Tuff blocks using a stonecutter. Additionally, they produce a "bass drum" sound when placed under note blocks. Like other stairs blocks, Polished Tuff Stairs allow players and mobs to change elevation without jumping, making them crucial for smooth transitions in terrain or interior structures. They have a hardness of 1.5 and the same mining requirements as regular Tuff, requiring a pickaxe.
