Red sandstone is a common building material in Minecraft, a variant of sandstone with a distinctive reddish hue. Similar to regular sandstone, red sandstone requires a pickaxe to mine, or it will drop nothing. Red sandstone primarily generates at cave entrances in badlands biomes, and underneath layers of red sand. Red sandstone comes in several variants, including cut red sandstone, chiseled red sandstone, and smooth red sandstone, which can be obtained through crafting and stonecutting. It is versatile, used in building, decoration, and when placed under note blocks to produce a bass drum sound. Notably, red sandstone is not affected by gravity, making it more stable for building than red sand. The same holds true for its variants. In Minecraft, red sandstone can be found in various places, such as at the entrances to caves in badlands biomes, and below red sand around floating platforms in badland villages. No naturally generated structures are made entirely of red sandstone. It can be crafted using four blocks of red sand or shaped using a stonecutter for different variations.
