In Minecraft, the sculk catalyst is a unique block primarily found in the deep dark biome. When an entity (including players) that drops experience dies near a sculk catalyst, it initiates a “bloom” process, converting surrounding blocks into sculk family blocks, such as sculk, sculk veins, sculk sensors, and sculk shriekers. This process utilizes the experience dropped upon death, with one experience point corresponding to one sculk charge used for block conversion. The catalyst itself is not converted. The catalyst's “bloom” emits soul particles and creates a patch of sculk blocks and veins. Sculk blocks can absorb energy to grow more sculk blocks, sensors, and shriekers. Sculk sensors detect vibrations and emit redstone signals, while sculk shriekers apply a darkness effect and can summon the Warden when activated. Sculk catalysts can be mined with any tool, but hoes are the fastest. Mining without Silk Touch drops 5 experience, while mining with Silk Touch drops the catalyst itself. Wardens and Withers drop sculk catalysts, providing a renewable source of the block.
