The sea lantern is a unique underwater light source in Minecraft, first introduced in version 1.8. It primarily generates in ocean ruins and ocean monuments, providing essential illumination for players exploring underwater. Sea lanterns emit a light level of 15, ranking them among the brightest light sources in the game, alongside glowstone and redstone lamps. Besides lighting, sea lanterns can be used to activate conduits and as decorative blocks, commonly used to build underwater bases or decorative structures. Players can obtain sea lanterns in two ways: one is to mine them directly using a tool enchanted with Silk Touch, and the other is by crafting them, using 4 prismarine shards and 5 prismarine crystals at a crafting table. Sea lanterns not only provide lighting underwater but also work on land. They offer effective illumination, helping players avoid attacks from underwater creatures during exploration. Sea lanterns are also popular in architectural design, adding a unique underwater atmosphere.
