Soul Sand is a unique block in Minecraft, primarily found naturally in the Nether and ancient cities. Its most notable feature is that it slows down the movement of mobs and players walking on it, while also causing them to sink slightly. Beyond its movement-impairing effect, Soul Sand plays several important roles in the game. It is essential for growing nether wart, a key ingredient for brewing potions. Additionally, Soul Sand is necessary for crafting soul-related blocks, creating bubble columns, and constructing the Wither. Soul Sand generates mainly below Y=34 in the Nether wastes, often in four-block-deep layers, and can also be found in nether wart rooms of nether fortresses, hoglin stables and housing units of bastion remnants. In the Overworld, Soul Sand is only found in ancient cities, making them the sole source in this dimension. Soul Sand is not a full block, standing at 14/16 of a block in height, which leads to special interactions like the inability to directly walk from Soul Sand onto a slab. Furthermore, fire lit on Soul Sand becomes soul fire, which burns indefinitely, adding a unique atmosphere and gameplay element.
