Stone bricks are a common decorative building block in Minecraft, first introduced in Beta 1.8. Primarily used for decoration and construction, it has a more structured surface compared to stone and cobblestone, and is often used by players to build castles or create stone flooring. Stone bricks and their variants, such as cracked stone bricks, mossy stone bricks, and chiseled stone bricks, can be found in structures like strongholds, igloo basements, jungle temples, ocean ruins, ruined portals, and trail ruins. Smooth stone bricks are a fifth variant exclusive to Bedrock Edition, visually identical to regular stone bricks but only accessible via commands. Stone bricks can be mined using any pickaxe. If mined without a pickaxe, they drop nothing. Stone bricks themselves do not have special functions, primarily serving as decoration. However, it can be used as a base for note blocks, producing a bass drum sound. Silverfish can enter and hide inside stone bricks, creating corresponding infested blocks. Players can obtain cracked stone bricks by smelting stone bricks, or craft stone bricks using stone blocks. Furthermore, apprentice-level stone mason villagers have a chance to sell chiseled stone bricks. There are also variations such as stone brick slabs and stone brick walls which serve a decorative purpose in Minecraft.
