Torch
Torches are a fundamental lighting item in Minecraft and a non-solid block. They can be placed on the top or sides of most solid blocks, providing a light level of 14, capable of melting snow and ice nearby. Torches are crafted using sticks and coal or charcoal. In the game, torches are used not only for illumination but also to prevent gravity-affected blocks like sand or gravel from falling. In addition to regular torches, there are soul torches, crafted with soul sand or soul soil, which emit a lower light level of 10 and do not melt ice or snow, while also repelling piglins. Furthermore, there are colored torches, dyed using metal chlorides in colors such as blue, red, purple, and green; however, they are purely aesthetic, offering the same light level as regular torches. Redstone torches are a special type of torch used in redstone circuits, emitting redstone signals and deactivating when the block they are attached to is powered, making them useful as logic gates. Aside from these, some mods introduce new torches, such as the Mega Torch from the TorchMaster mod, which prevents hostile mobs from naturally spawning within a large radius. Torches are crucial in Minecraft, serving as indispensable tools for early exploration, construction, and redstone contraptions.
