In Minecraft, a Bucket of Pufferfish is a unique item that is essentially a water bucket containing a live pufferfish. This item cannot be crafted; instead, players must catch a pufferfish using a water bucket directly in the game. Pufferfish are typically found in warm and lukewarm ocean biomes. To catch one, players need to hold a water bucket and use it near a pufferfish, which will then result in a Bucket of Pufferfish. This bucket serves as a means to transport pufferfish and also to release them back into the water. Furthermore, a Bucket of Pufferfish can be directly found in the creative inventory. Wandering traders also have a small chance to sell them. In Java Edition, naming a bucket of pufferfish using an anvil will cause the pufferfish inside the bucket to display that name. Buckets of pufferfish can be used to lead and breed axolotls and speed up the growth of baby axolotls. Notably, the water in a pufferfish bucket is blue, whereas the water in a tadpole bucket is green. In the game, pufferfish are defensive creatures that inflate and release poison when approached by players or other entities. The pufferfish in a bucket will not despawn, unlike naturally spawned pufferfish.
