In Minecraft, a Bucket of Tropical Fish is a special item that is essentially a water bucket containing a live tropical fish. This item cannot be crafted using a crafting table or furnace; instead, players need to find and capture it in the game. Tropical fish are common passive aquatic mobs found in warm oceans, lukewarm oceans, deep lukewarm oceans, and lush cave biomes. There are a wide variety of tropical fish in the game, with different colors and shapes, boasting 3,072 naturally occurring variants in Java Edition and 2,700 in Bedrock Edition. Players can obtain a bucket of tropical fish by using a water bucket to right-click on a tropical fish. These buckets are useful for moving tropical fish from one location to another and can also be used to feed and breed axolotls. When used, a bucket of tropical fish will release both the water and the fish. Tropical fish released from a bucket do not despawn unless removed by the player. Additionally, a bucket of tropical fish can sometimes be purchased from a wandering trader for 5 emeralds. In Creative Mode, players can find a bucket of tropical fish directly in their inventory. They are often used for decoration as well, allowing players to create their own aquariums underwater.
