A fishing rod is an essential tool in Minecraft, primarily used for fishing in the game. Players use a fishing rod to cast a line into bodies of water, wait for fish to bite, and then reel in to obtain fish, junk, or treasure. The rod can also be used to hook and pull mobs, items, and other entities, but this will reduce its durability. The fishing rod has a durability of 64 uses in Java Edition and 384 uses in Bedrock Edition. It can be enchanted to enhance its abilities, such as increasing the chances of obtaining treasure (Luck of the Sea), speeding up bite times (Lure), or increasing durability (Unbreaking or Mending). Enchanted rods can be obtained from fishing, trading with villagers, and can also drop from drowned mobs. In addition to fishing, fishing rods can be used as fuel in furnaces, smelting 1.5 items per rod. Some mods modify the fishing mechanics, like RLCraft which adds a minigame and different types of rods.
