Glowstone dust is an item in Minecraft, primarily obtained by mining glowstone in the Nether. Breaking a glowstone block with a tool lacking Silk Touch will drop 2-4 glowstone dust. Using a tool with the Fortune enchantment increases the drop amount, with Fortune III yielding an average of 3.5 glowstone dust per block. Witches also have a chance to drop 0-6 glowstone dust, and this amount is increased by the Looting enchantment, up to a maximum of 15. The main use of glowstone dust is in potion brewing, increasing potion strength and reducing duration. It's also used to craft glowstone blocks, a very bright light source in the game. In Bedrock Edition, journeyman-level cleric villagers also sell one glowstone dust for 4 emeralds. Glowstone dust was first added in Alpha v1.2.0, with changes to its uses and acquisition over different versions. For example, witches started dropping glowstone dust in version 1.4.2. Besides brewing and crafting blocks, glowstone dust can be used to craft Firework Stars and add a twinkle effect. Texture changes have also occurred in certain version updates. Glowstone dust is also used to craft Spectral Arrows, and to charge respawn anchors.
