In Minecraft, Gray Dye is a coloring agent used to change the color of items and blocks. It can be used to dye wool, carpets, terracotta, concrete powder, glass, shulker boxes, beds, candles, banner patterns, firework stars, certain mobs, and text on signs and hanging signs. In Bedrock Edition, it can also be used to dye water in cauldrons, which can then be used to dye leather armor; in Java Edition, leather armor can be dyed directly. In Minecraft Education Edition, dyes can also be used to dye balloons and glow sticks. Gray dye is primarily crafted by combining black dye and white dye at a crafting table, yielding two gray dye per craft. It can also be obtained by trading with wandering traders, who sell three gray dye for one emerald (Bedrock Edition only). Additionally, gray dye can be synthesized using bone meal and ink sacs or, in some versions, white flowers and black ink sacs. Gray dye has wide-ranging uses in the game, making it a common item for players engaged in building and decorating.
