Languages:

  • Chinese: 海带
  • English: Kelp
Kelp is an underwater plant that naturally generates in most ocean biomes in Minecraft, except for frozen, deep frozen, and warm oceans. It typically appears near seagrass, with a 1⁄18 chance of generating a kelp vegetation in each chunk. Kelp can be mined instantly with any tool or even the player's fist. Breaking one part of a kelp stalk destroys all kelp blocks above it, and each block drops a kelp item. Kelp can be used as a fuel for smelting, with one dried kelp block smelting 20 items and undried kelp smelting 1.22 items. Smelting kelp also grants 0.1 experience. Additionally, kelp can be composted, averaging 1 bone meal per 23.33 kelp. Kelp grows similarly to sugarcane, growing upward in the water until the top is one block below the surface. It can be manually farmed, or automated with observers or pistons. Kelp farming is like sugar cane farming, but must be done underwater.
