The Glow Squid is a passive aquatic mob in Minecraft, a variant of the squid. It has an aqua luminescent texture and is found in dark underwater areas, such as ocean depths, ravines, and underground lakes. It was originally featured in Minecraft Earth. In Minecraft Java Edition, glow squids typically spawn in schools of 2 to 4 in complete darkness in the Overworld below layer 30, except for the Deep Dark biome. Unlike most other aquatic mobs, they don't require water or waterlogged blocks above or below their spawning space. In Bedrock Edition, glow squids spawn anywhere there is water underground in any dimension, in schools of 2 to 4, below Y=30. Glow squids have a 5% chance of spawning as babies. They wander aimlessly in the water, opening and closing their tentacles, appearing as if they are leisurely pushing themselves forward. When out of water, they suffocate and die after 15 seconds. They are passive towards players, but when attacked, they release a cloud of turquoise ink and swim away quickly. Glow squids drop glow ink sacs when killed, which can be used to brighten text on signs or craft glow item frames.
