Pillagers, also known as illagers, are hostile mobs in Minecraft armed with crossbows. They are commonly found in patrols, pillager outposts, or during raids. Pillagers will actively attack players, iron golems, wandering traders, and adult villagers. In the Java Edition, a pillager spawned by a player using a spawn egg or commands can be a captain, indicated by an ominous banner sticking out of its head. The number of pillagers in patrols varies from one to five depending on the regional difficulty, with one being a captain. Pillager outposts constantly spawn pillagers. During raids, pillagers are more common in earlier waves. Pillagers attack with crossbows at range, firing an arrow every three seconds. They pursue enemies up to 64 blocks in Java Edition and 16 blocks in Bedrock Edition. If pillagers kill all the villagers in a village, they celebrate their victory by jumping and laughing. Upon death, pillagers have a chance to drop items like crossbows. Killing a captain gives the player the Bad Omen status effect, which triggers a raid when the player enters a village. Pillager behaviors and appearances differ slightly between the Java and Bedrock editions. Overall, Pillagers are dangerous enemies in Minecraft and players should approach them cautiously.
