In Minecraft, rabbits are a common passive mob, providing players with resources such as raw rabbit, rabbit hide, and rabbit's foot. Rabbits typically spawn on grass, snow blocks, or sand, appearing individually or in groups consisting of one adult and one to two baby rabbits. They come in various colors, including brown, white, black, black and white, cream, and salt and pepper, depending on the biome they inhabit. Rabbits move by hopping instead of walking and can jump almost two blocks high. They will slowly approach players holding carrots, golden carrots, or dandelions. When the /gamerule mobGriefing is true, rabbits will also eat mature carrot crops. In addition to normal rabbits, there are two special variants: the Killer Bunny and Toast. The Killer Bunny is an aggressive variant exclusive to Java Edition, appearing pure white with horizontal red eyes. It does not spawn naturally and can only be summoned using commands. Toast rabbits are a memorial to a missing rabbit, obtainable by naming a regular rabbit with a name tag, giving it a black and white patched appearance. Neither of these variants spawn naturally. Rabbits also drop rabbit hide upon death, up to 4 with Looting III. This rabbit hide can be used to craft leather, or be crafted into bundles to store stacks of items. Furthermore, rabbits have a chance to drop a rabbit’s foot, used to brew potions of leaping.
