Slimes are bouncy, cube-shaped hostile mobs in Minecraft. They spawn primarily in specific underground "slime chunks" or in swamp biomes. Slimes attack by jumping at their targets and come in three sizes: small, medium, and large. Larger slimes split into smaller ones upon death. They spawn in specific chunks below layer 40, regardless of light level, and in swamp biomes between layers 51 and 69 with a light level of 7 or less. Their size distribution is affected by game difficulty. Slime spawning is also influenced by the moon phase in swamps, with increased spawns during a full moon and no spawns during a new moon. Slimes move by hopping, can swim, and climb ladders. They attack by colliding, continuously dealing damage to players and iron golems they touch. When larger slimes die, they split into multiple smaller slimes and drop slimeballs, an essential material for crafting sticky pistons and other items.
