In Minecraft, a small fireball is a projectile produced primarily by blazes or by dispensers using fire charges. It travels in a straight line unaffected by gravity until it hits a block or entity. Upon hitting a block, it may set fire or soul fire if possible, but does not cause an explosion. Small fireballs can light campfires, nether portals, and prime minecarts with TNT. If it hits an entity not immune to fire and without fire resistance, it deals 5 projectile damage, setting the target on fire for 5 seconds, causing an additional 4 fire damage for a total of up to 9 damage. Unlike regular fireballs, small fireballs cannot be deflected by melee attacks or arrows, but can be blocked by shields. They are approximately 0.3125 blocks in height and width. In Java Edition, their sound falls under the Friendly Creatures category, while it differs in Bedrock Edition. The flight speed and trajectory of small fireballs vary based on their source; those from dispensers accelerate while those from blazes maintain a consistent speed. Also, small fireballs will travel indefinitely until they hit something, even outside of the player's render distance.
