The Brick Pyramid was an experimental structure that existed in the early development phase (Infdev) of Minecraft. These tall pyramids were constructed entirely of brick blocks and were completely empty inside. They would generate at predetermined locations within the world, regardless of world seed or terrain, typically in the southeast quadrant. One pyramid would generate in every 1024x1024 block area, resulting in a large number of these structures. The base of the brick pyramids would conform to the terrain instead of being fully underground, like desert pyramids. Their height would reach the maximum map elevation, and they expanded downward, with each layer containing a different number of brick blocks. Initially, brick pyramids had a hole in the center, which was later removed. These structures existed between February 27, 2010, and March 27, 2010, before being removed. Brick pyramids were introduced to test the structure generation mechanics and laid the foundation for the development of other structures in the game. Since regular brick blocks were not craftable at the time, mining these pyramids was the only way to obtain them. Before their removal, some pyramids were affected by the game's height limit, resulting in truncated tops or other irregular shapes.
