In Minecraft, a fortress, also known as a Nether Fortress, is a large structure primarily found in the Nether. These fortresses are composed of bridges, corridors, and towers, typically constructed from nether bricks. They are the only natural spawning locations for wither skeletons and blazes. Blazes drop blaze rods, a key ingredient for crafting brewing stands and eyes of ender. Fortresses also contain nether wart, which is crucial for potion brewing. Nether Fortresses can generate in any Nether biome. The game divides the Nether into regions, each region can only generate either a fortress or a bastion remnant. These regions are 432x432 blocks in Java Edition and 480x480 blocks in Bedrock Edition. Fortresses include areas like open bridges and enclosed corridors, and may contain blaze spawners and chests with valuable loot like horse armor and obsidian. Nether Fortresses are significant locations for players to explore the Nether, gather resources, and face hostile mobs.
