Monolith
In Minecraft, the term "Monolith" refers to two distinct concepts. The original "Monoliths" were glitched terrain formations that appeared in the early versions of the game (Infdev and Alpha eras). These monoliths were caused by an error in the Perlin noise generator, resulting in terrain abruptly extending upwards to the world height limit. These created massive, hollow vertical structures, potentially containing grass, ores, and caves. The underside was typically hollow, sometimes containing water and bedrock. These monoliths usually appeared in relatively flat terrains, and were a unique landscape feature of the early versions of the game. Another kind of “Monolith” comes from the Dimensional Doors Mod, appearing as large, narrow black rectangles that float in Pocket Dimensions and the Limbo dimension. These monoliths cannot move, but will turn to face the player when they get near. Their primary purpose is to prevent players from bypassing dungeon traps. If players look at them for too long or get too close, they are teleported to Limbo, accompanied by a noticeable ominous sound. In Limbo, these monoliths randomly teleport players to other locations. While they can be removed via some methods such as explosives or a Water Staff, generally avoiding them is the best course of action.
