The Nether Reactor was a player-built structure exclusive to Minecraft Pocket Edition (PE), which, when activated, spawned a massive netherrack structure and generated large quantities of normally rare or unobtainable items. It was initially introduced as a workaround before the Nether dimension was added in version 0.12.1. The Nether Reactor was constructed using gold blocks, cobblestone, and a Nether Reactor Core, arranged in a specific 3x3x3 pattern with air blocks on the middle and top layers. If the structure was incorrect, attempting to activate the reactor would result in a “Not the correct pattern!” message. When activated, the reactor generated a netherrack structure called the 'Nether Spire' around it and spawned various items within the reactor room, including glowstone dust, nether quartz, cacti, sugar canes, mushrooms, bows, bowls, books, doors, beds, pumpkin seeds, and melon seeds. Zombified piglins would also spawn. After activation, the blocks that made up the reactor would convert into glowing obsidian, and the core would turn red. The reaction lasted for 45 seconds, after which the reactor would become an obsidian structure, the core turned dark blue, and it would no longer spawn items or zombified piglins. The reactor core is non-renewable and cannot be obtained in new worlds through commands or Creative mode, only through inventory editing or add-ons. It was once breakable and dropped diamonds and iron ingots, but is now mainly regarded as a novelty item by veteran players.
