The Void
In Minecraft, 'The Void' refers to the empty space external to the world in any dimension, most commonly below it. In vanilla Minecraft, it can be entered by using a command, Map Editor, in Creative or Spectator mode, using glitches, or by reaching the End. No blocks can generate or be placed in the void, not even with commands. In Java Edition, falling at least 64 blocks into the void (i.e., below Y=-128 in the Overworld) causes mobs (except the ender dragon) to lose 4 health every 0.5 seconds, resulting in player death in 2.5 seconds. Armor, totems of undying, Resistance, and Protection enchantments do not prevent death in the void. Players can survive by constantly eating enchanted golden apples or having sufficient Regeneration or Instant Health (achieved only with commands). In Bedrock Edition, players lose 4 health every half second below Y=-82, and an invisible bedrock barrier stops them at Y=-104, which can be bypassed with commands. The void appears black in the Overworld and Nether, and purple in the End. In the superflat preset, The Void is an empty biome generating only a 33x33 void start platform centered on a cobblestone block at X=8, Y=-61, Z=8, where no mobs naturally spawn, except phantoms and pillager patrols.
