In Minecraft, underwater caves are a common terrain feature often found underground or underwater. These caves are open spaces with various sizes and shapes, frequently intersecting with each other or other structures, forming vast cave systems. They are known for their abundance of ores and hostile mobs that spawn in the darkness. Underwater caves may be completely flooded, sometimes containing underwater lava which produces bubble columns providing air for players to breathe. There are two main types of caves: carver caves, which often have a main room and branching tunnels, and noise caves, which come in forms like cheese caves, spaghetti caves, and noodle caves. Underwater caves may also connect to bodies of water and contain underground lakes and lava lakes. Exploration of these caves requires equipment like water breathing potions and night vision potions to deal with the dangers of drowning, hostile mobs, and lava. Structures such as ruins, dungeons, and mineshafts may also be found within these underwater caves. Players can use navigation tools like compasses and torches to avoid getting lost.
